Auteur, réalisateur et chef monteur, Simon Birman explore à travers le cinéma de genre les dangers de la fierté et de l’obsession. Ce qui nous pousse à affronter seuls des défis insurmontables, souvent au détriment de soi-même.
Après son court-métrage d’horreur Fluides, qui a fait la tournée des festivals en Europe, aux États-Unis et en Amérique latine (notamment au Mórbido Fest), et qui a été récompensé à de nombreuses reprises, Birman vient de terminer un nouveau court-métrage d’horreur intitulé L’Oeil Gauche. Il raconte l’histoire d’une jeune photographe dont l’ambition artistique finit par contaminer sa vie intime.
Il développe actuellement deux longs-métrages : un slasher urbain et un film d’anticipation rural, qui poursuivent son exploration des obsessions humaines.
En tant que chef monteur, Birman a collaboré avec des cinéastes internationaux tels que Šarūnas Bartas et Amos Gitai. Les films qu’il a montés ont été présentés dans des festivals prestigieux comme Cannes, la Berlinale et San Sebastián.
Simon Birman is a film writer, director, and editor whose genre films explore the dangers of pride and obsession. What drives us to face insurmountable challenges alone, often at our own expense.
His horror short Fluides toured festivals across Europe, the US, and Latin America (including Mórbido Fest) and received multiple awards. He has just completed a new horror short, L’Oeil Gauche (The Left Eye), which follows a young photographer whose artistic ambition gradually bleeds into and corrupts her intimate life.
He is currently developing two features: an urban slasher and a rural dystopian film, both continuing his exploration of human obsession.
As a film editor, Birman has collaborated with filmmakers including Šarūnas Bartas and Amos Gitai, with films screening at Cannes, the Berlinale, and San Sebastián.
