Tourné à Beyrouth le 22 septembre 2024, quelques heures seulement avant l’escalade de bombardements dans tout le pays, Manal Issa, 2024 présente une interview de la célèbre actrice franco-libanaise Manal Issa. Distillée à partir de longues conversations à distance entre Elisabeth aux États-Unis et Manal au Liban au cours de l’année, le film examine intimement le rôle de l’acteur pendant le conflit mondial en cours. Refusant d’être vue face caméra, Issa réfléchit aux questions posées autrefois à la regrettée actrice française Maria Schneider (connue pour son expérience traumatisante lors du tournage du film “Un dernier tango à Paris” en 1972), critique prémonitoire du sexisme dans l’industrie cinématographique. Dans « Manal Issa, 2024 », l’apparition d’Issa pousse la critique encore plus loin.

Distilled from hours of long-distance conversations between Elisabeth in the U.S. and Manal in Lebanon over the past year, the film intimately considers the role of the actor during the unfolding global conflict. Refusing to be seen on camera, Issa reflects on questions once posed to the late French actress Maria Schneider (best known for her traumatic experience in the 1972 film “Last Tango In Paris”), who was a prescient critic of sexism in the film industry. In “Manal Issa, 2024,” an apparitional Issa takes the critique much further.
